North Shields is easily accessible by both public transport and car. Many visitors choose to use the Tyneside Metro which provides fast and efficient rail links throughout North Tyneside and now down to Sunderland city centre. North Shields Metro station is three minutes walk from site of the market.
From Newcastle and points to the west approach via the A1058 Coast Road to its end at the Billy Mill Roundabout. From there follow the signs into the town.
Follow the A19 signs from the A1(M) for the Tyne Tunnel. North Shields town centre is clearly signed from the tunnel and is less than three miles.
Use the A19 and leave either at either the 1058 roundabout and then follow as above from Newcastle. If you miss that then take a left at the next slip road and follow the local road into town. You can also leave the A19 at the tunnel roundabout and proceed as above from the South.
Local visitors from South of the river can use the Shields ferry which provides a half hourly service between North and South Shields.
